A little about me

Hello and welcome!

It’s been a heck of a ride over the past 25 years as a drummer, starting out with tuition at home from my Father, to navigating a career that’s taken me across the UK and around the world with some of the finest musicians out there!

Currently, I play drums for Cardinal Black, with whom I’ve recorded two studio albums and one live record since our launch in 2022. In that time we’ve toured extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA, ticking off bucket list goals by playing rooms such as the Royal Albert Hall, Shepherds Bush Empire and The Troubadour in Los Angeles. Our recording endeavours have taken us to Studio 2, Abbey Road Studios, Rockfield Studios and Powerplay Studios, Zurich.

My drumming education began at home with my Dad, on a mini kit as a 10 year old with no sense of rhythm, playing along to Queen and The Police hits. That was the hook that reeled me in to want to do this for the rest of my life. It was non-negotiable. I spent my teenage years idolising the likes of John Bonham, Stewart Copeland, Chad Smith and Taylor Hawkins, desperately trying (and usually failing!) to imitate their brilliance whilst playing in covers bands with my mates. I was having a blast whilst learning my craft and gaining experience of playing live on stage (mainly to a handful of people!). It was at School that I started formal tuition and study, learning my grading that developed an understanding and grounding of technique and reading music. That was instrumental in giving me the confidence and ability to play at a higher level.

As my drumming life progressed, I returned to formal study to expand phrasing and vocabulary and understand a wider spectrum of drumming principals, such as Jazz, African and Cuban. This re-lit the fire in me around my own continuous learning whilst unlocking previously held limitations, resulting in real growth. It’s this continuous learning journey we are all on as drummers that has led me to teach. Not only from a technical aspect, but in sharing my knowledge and experiences as a working drummer in dealing with psychological and mental aspects that impact so many of us. The drumming community is like no other, and I’m so lucky to contribute as both player and tutor.

At present I balance touring life with Cardinal Black with teaching commitments and session recording. I have my own purpose built drum studio that’s fully equipped for both tuition and remote recording.
